ABOUT DESTIERRA
Destierra is a ceramic studio that features trendy and whimsical pieces that are hand-built and one-of-a-kind. Our ceramic pieces push the boundaries through form exploration, meticulous attention to detail, and an organic, dynamic look, the pieces are not mass-produced but rather crafted with care to give each one a unique personality.
Growing up in another country and culture to now living in Los Angeles, I constantly experience the feeling of not belonging, and it is this very feeling that gave birth to Destierra. I have a strong urge to reconnect with my roots, home, and childhood, which is why I turned to ceramics. I feel that the presence of earth in these organic materials acts as a means to take me back to my roots. In Spanish, Destierra means to remove someone from their land or country, it is the tension between opportunity and loss that inspires me to create Destierra.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Camila Caceres was born in Lima, Peru and currently lives and works as an artist in Los Angeles, California. Her creative practice investigates the tension between memory and loss, care and indoctrination, play and discipline, and the way in which these modalities produce meaning and shape our behavior specifically within the context of the home. She explores these themes across the mediums of painting, ceramics, installation and performance.
